Sonic Adventure 2 Battle review

By Pete1256

Well, well. Here we have the 2nd 3D Sonic game to appear on the Sega Dreamcast and now, the Nintendo Gamecube! This was meant to be a direct port straight from the DC to the GC but they just couln't help packing it full of bonus GC exclusive content, could they?
First off you notice the epic theme song on the title screen.
"Can 'ya feel life 'runnin though your mind?" Surprised Sorry...
Anyway, back to the review.
There are 4 main options on the game screen;
1P Mode
2P Battle
Extra and
Options
------------------------------------------
The 1P Mode is the main story mode or replay-a-mission mode.
2P Battle says it in the name. You can play a race, treasure-hunt, battle or a kart-racing 2P game.
Extra gives you all of the soundtracks throughout the game, the emblem results and a tutorial that covers the whole game, from controls to how to work the chao garden (will explain about that later!).
The options cover all of the customisation options, language, rumble ect.
On the customisation options you can even change the background picture to;
Shadow
Sonic
Eggman
Amy
Tails
Knuckles and
Rouge.

Ok. We finally come to the epic storyline part.
There are over 25 missions in the story and 3 types of mission.
Speed, treasure hunting and mech missions.
Sonic and Shadow have the main run-through (speed) missions.
Knuckles and Rouge have the treasure hunting missions.
And Tails and Eggman have the mech missions.

There are also 3 types of story.
Dark
Hero and
Last.
The Hero missions cast Sonic, Knuckles and Tails.
The Dark missions cast Shadow, Rouge and Eggman.
But I don't want to spoil the "Last" story for you

The story is fantastic, start to finish. It left me close to tears at how good the concept and the ending was, especially when someone dies (can't say, its a major spoiler)
There is also alot of replayablility to be found here.
You can replay every mission you have played and improve your grade.
(A, B, C, D, E)

Now, finally we come to the Chao garden.
Every mission you can collect a key to go to the Chao garden.
Chao are little cute creatures (a bit like tamagotchi's!) which you can raise, feed, pet and hurt (lol) them.
You can buy new trees, fruit, eggs and toys from the black market seen in the Nursery.
The Nursery is a place where you can drop your Chao via GBA connectivity, to make them learn, give them a name ect.

Final Score

The only thing bad about this game is the sometimes frustrating bosses and missions. One time, I had to quit a mission just to go back to get a power-up!

But other than that this game is great and definetly deserves at least a:
9/10

Good and Bad points

+ Controls Well
+ Epic Storyline
+ Great Soundtrack

- Frustrating Bosses & Missions
- Can only turn into Super Sonic at the very end Crying or Very sad
- Some Character Models Are Wasted
